Simple sentence


A simple sentence consists of a subject and verb, that is, it is the independent clause.
e.g. He starts the lesson early.
       Socheata is searching for the orphans.
      Bora and Dary are students.
      He will be studying English at 10.
Functions of Simple Sentence
1. Declarative Sentence (telling information, informing)
E.g.  I go to school now.
        She is a teacher.
        They are playing football.
        I don’t go to school today.
2. Interrogative Sentence (asking questions)
e.g.  Do you know it?
        What does she do?
        Do you like apples or bananas?
        Where do you live?
3. Imperative Sentence (ordering, telling someone to do something)
e.g. Go away.
       Sit down.
       Stand up.
Don’t ever do that again.
* Note: no subject
4. Exclamatory Sentence (showing surprise, anger, emotion)
e.g.What a beautiful girl she is!
      How wonderful!
      When is it!
